Workshops

This year we've decided to throw together a few different workshops to provide activities for Sunday that would help teach new skills to people attending as well as be a good chance to hang out and network. Each workshop will be capped at a max of 12 people and will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis. Admission to the workshops are included in the registration price. Please select which workshop you would like to be a part of when you register. If for some reason you decide to change your workshop or have any questions, feel free to email David Hulton. Also, if you want to just get out and hang out with friends on Sunday instead, we'll be organizing a few different activities around town with prizes involved that will be announced soon!

All of the workshops will start at noon and end at around 6:00pm. We're planning on having catered dinner/drinks at the PNA after the workshops and festivities for people to meet up and hang out. We're encouraging people to leave on Monday morning but it's not a problem if you have to catch a flight during the middle of the day.

Lockpicking Workshop (Sold Out!)
Instructors: Deviant Ollam & Datagram
Includes: Lockpick set
The lockpicking workshop will teach the basics of how different types of locks work, how to pick them, bump them, rekey them, and file new keys from pictures and/or putty imprints. We'll have some of the best lockpickers in the hacker scene teaching this course, so they'll teach you whatever you want to learn about locks.

Hardware Reverse Engineering Workshop (Sold Out!)
Instructors: Bunnie & Karsten Nohl
Includes: Magnified Chip Printouts & Chip Samples
This workshop will cover the basics of how to decap chips, take pictures of them under a microscope, and how to decode the logic inside of them.

Electronics Crash Course Workshop (Sold Out!)
Instructors: 3ric Johanson & Phil Rutschman
Includes: PCBs and parts
Many hackers out there know a lot about software but barely anything about hardware. In this workshop we'll teach you how to solder together your own board, program a microcontroller, and how to use your new-found electronics skills for good or evil!

Metalworking Workshop (Sold Out!)
Instructor: Rusty Oliver
Includes: Scrap metal
Ever wanted to learn how to weld or use a milling machine or lathe to make stuff out of metal? This workshop will go over the basics of working with metal and by the end of the day you'll go home with some sweet chunk of metal of your own creation!

Laptop Badge/Geek Jewelry Workshop (Sold Out!)
Instructor: Amy Johnston
Includes: Copper or brass sheet
Tired of covering up the corporate logos on your laptop with boring old stickers? In this workshop, we'll etch copper and brass to create your own steampunk laptop badge or jewelry. This technique can be used to etch custom PCBs as well. Bring along B&W artwork (no halftones) or use a supplied design. We'll also cover jewelrymaking basics such as hand sawing, filing, drilling, and clean-up.
